ABOUT ME
Hi! I'm Elizabeth, and I'm coming up on a year to the date of my son leaving home. That makes me an empty nester and I'm not afraid to admit that it's probably been one of the best years of my life. Sure, I miss my son, but he's doing his thing and I've taken this opportunity to grow and nurture myself. Something I haven't done in the last 19 years if I had to be totally honest and I have no reason not to be.
It's funny because I encourage my clients to focus on themselves. It's important, right up there with a good diet, exercise and plenty of water. I think I got the plenty of water right. So this past year has been about turning the mirror back on myself. Re-Creating My Story; How I want to move through the world and it's been challenging to say the least but completely rewarding. I can't wait to see what happens next without holding onto expectations of the outcome. As my good friend Erika said, this year is all about AS IS.

I invite you to "gift" yourself an opportunity to break through the blocks holding you back so you can cross over those messy boundaries and live the extraordinary life you deserve.
Sound good? So here's what happens...
You're going to rewrite your story, change the picture, and re-create what you want your life to look like and then go live it out loud! It's pretty cool and the end result is going to surprise you.
My number one goal has always been to encourage people to move forward, creatively with compassion and deep affection for self so you can breakdown the walls, recreate the story that no longer works and jump into the life you deserve.
MOODY ME WORKSHOPS
Time for kids to express themselves without boundaries or judgement.
I love these workshops. It's where it all began and I'm honored to be able to create a safe place for children to examine their moods in all their beautiful, sometimes icky glory and express them in words that tumble out as poems, self identifying lists or rap songs! The sky is the limit and there's no right or wrong way to express yourself. I don't even care about spelling. After all, it's not English Class and there are zero grades. Just a big thumbs up to celebrate your unique, individual voice. That's Part One. Part Two is to create how you're feeling using imagery. Paint, draw, scribble. It's all perfect and I promise you're going to discover something cool you never knew before.
Course Objective:
I'm honored to be directing workshops for girls for the 6th time at the GENaustin Girls Now Conference. November 4th. Log on to reserve your spot for your daughter.

Here's some other stuff I've been doing lately:
July 2017
I just launched the Inaugural Opening of my own Gallery and got this amazing review with Art Alliance!

CREATE YOUR STORY!
I've been invited to facilitate workshops in the Corporate Arena to help implement team building, creativity, leadership and overall progress in the workplace. Whole Foods and Microsoft are new clients!
CREATE YOUR STORY!
My invitation to work with the men and women (but mostly men!) who served our country. It's been fascinating to help create a safe and FUN environment for our veterans. These guys revealed their bravery by sharing personal stories, artistic expressions and yes, feelings! So honored.
I'm humbled to be doing this work thanks to Reverend David Peters and the Strategic Mission Grant through The Episcopalian Veterans Fellowship.

Art Alliance Interview: Beyond The Bio. 7/2017
https://www.artallianceaustin.org/carousel/beyond-bio-elizabeth-decker
Beyond the Bio: Elizabeth Decker
Beyond the Bio is a series that takes you past the canvas and into the minds of the artists and curators who build the contemporary arts community.
Artist: Elizabeth Decker
Primary Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
What motivates your work?
The biggest motivator is my need to communicate. This takes place internally of course, as I am working out the conversation with myself, mediating what works and doesn’t work and examining the transformation of self through my work. I’m inspired by my relationships with people and the relationship with myself. Music, poetry, nature, conversations, struggles, celebrations are all factors that help me create my work.
How long have you been an artist and how has your practice changed over time?
I’ve always had an artistic nature but I didn’t seriously show my work until my 30’s. At first, I painted as a therapeutic tool to help deal with my moods but as I gained confidence and began presenting my work, my ability as an artist began to grow and I become dedicated to the craft, embracing my talents and creating a business rather than brushing it off as a hobby. Also, I used to paint late into the night and recently that has changed. I paint during the day, like a 9-5 job but way more fun and gratifying!
What are you working on right now?
I’m working on series of large, abstract faces. Faces and figures are a reoccurring theme in my work. The difference now is that they are lighter: more space. A little less in your face. There’s something quiet and serene which didn’t exist before and I don’t feel compelled to overwork it. My motto, in general, is keep it simple.
What does the Austin arts community need most as the city continues to grow?
I love what you guys are doing! Hosting the Art Breaks. I think it’s key to create a platform to constantly promote the artists. We’re here! There is so much talent that needs to be recognized and by creating an ongoing series, like what you’re doing, in addition to EAST and WEST, we can continue to engage the public with what we have to offer here in Austin. That we are a serious art destination. That’s my primary motivation in establishing my home as a now working gallery. Keep the conversation going! Explore and discover. Introduce a new voice.
Tell us about your upcoming or current exhibitions.
I have an opening on July 27th at Ocean House Studio Gallery. 6:30-9. Open to the public. This is exciting because it is my Official Gallery Opening at my home studio, which I have turned into a working gallery. I participated in WEST this year and I transformed my home into a beautiful, boutique gallery featuring my work and the work of Chris White and Amy Scofield. It was very well attended for a first run. I’ve participated in EAST for the past 8 years, but this was new having moved to South Austin three years ago. The transformation of my home inspired me to keep this going and create community events featuring other artists, creating a space where artists and art lovers can come together to engage in conversation. I’m also motivated to offer a platform for other artists to show their work in an intimate setting.
Elizabeth Decker is a celebrated artist, author, poet, teacher, documentary film maker, The No Show, certified Mediator and personal creative story advocate. “ I like to to explore my on-going relationship with self and my relationships with others through story, conversation, color, and texture either figuratively or in the abstract. The art of communicating these thoughts, ideas and observations create the pictorial story of my journey.”
Beyond the Bio is curated by Art Alliance Austin. If you’re interested in being featured email Ashlee at apryor@artallianceaustin.org.

Moody Me & Creative Discovery Workshops
Artistic Productions
Austin, Los Angeles, New York CityI've been doing these workshops for years with great results. I have brought people together and helped them transform their lives creatively through writing and art:
Hosting a safe, supportive and encouraging space for people to tap into their emotional selves and rediscover their creativity through writing and art. It's about self discovery, freedom, joy, connecting and communicating with other people. And yes, sometimes there's wine.
First Draft Done!
I finished the first draft of my novel in March 2014. A story about unrequited love...It only took two years yet a lifetime...Publishers are interested! Are you?
A Documentary I did a while back. It showcased at the Austin Film Society. I've often thought I should dust this off. It might have been before it's time. I'd love to resurrect it, giving a platform to all people, not just women, who changed their stories by creating safe boundaries...
The No Show
Creator, Producer, Directorworldwide/ongoing
Creator, Producer, Directorworldwide/ongoing
A short documentary celebrating women who create strong boundaries by saying NO to things that no longer serve them and as a result, begin to say YES to themselves.
